Neglected Gum Diseases Can Lead Pancreatic Cancer

In findings which recently published in the Jan. 17 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute,
the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston concluded that men with poor oral health have a significantly increased risk of developing pancreatic cancer over those with good oral health.According to the study men with gum disease were 63 percent more likely to develop pancreatic cancer than those without gum disease. Non-smokers with gum disease were twice as likely to develop the hard-to-treat cancer as those with healthy gums.Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, with approximately 33,730 new cases of pancreatic cancer diagnosed and 32,200 deaths attributed to this disease annually.
