Italian PM hands in resignation

According to report Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi has handed his resignation to the country’s president after losing vote from coalition partners.Several of Mr Prodi’s coalition partners opposed troop deployments in Afghanistan and plans to expand a US airbase in northern Italy.According to Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema, the Senate vote that the government should resign if it did not command majority support on foreign policy.Renato Schifani, Senate leader of the biggest opposition party, Forza Italia said “I have in my hand one of the most important newspapers in the country with a declaration by Foreign Minister D’Alema: ‘Resignation if we have no majority’,There is no majority any more … There is no Prodi government any more. The Prodi government has fallen in this chamber.”

The government of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez chose not to renew the license of the audiovisual group Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV),a private group whose principal activity consists in denigrating the policies of the Bolivarian government, which will expire May 28, 2007. This decision, which is completely legal, created a lively debate in the international press, which has become a mouthpiece for the Venezuelan opposition and immediately denounced a case of “censorship.”
