Valentin Elizalde

Thousands of fans turned out Sunday to mourn slain Mexican “banda” singer Valentin Elizalde as his casket was carried back to his hometown in northern Sonora state.
February 1, 1979–November 25, 2006) was a Mexican popular banda music singer gunned down in an ambush. Known by the nickname “El Gallo de Oro” (The Golden Rooster), his biggest Norteño hits included “Vete Ya,” “Ebrio de Amor” and “Soy Asi.” [1]
Elizalde was born in a town named Etchojoa Jitonhueca, Sonora. He later moved to Guadalajara, Jalisco and later to Guasave, Sinaloa where he and his father Lalo Elizalde (”El Gallo”) and brother resided for a few years. His father, also a singer, died in a car accident on the “curve of death” in the city of Villa Juárez, Sonora.
